North Carolina security-guard registration is overseen by the Private Protective Services Board (PPSB). Bluewater's public state-licensing enrollment currently focuses on Florida Class D and Tennessee unarmed-guard training. New unarmed guard registration
North Carolina requires a basic unarmed security guard training course of at least 16 classroom hours. Current PPSB materials state that the first four hours cover The Security Officer in North Carolina and Legal Issues for Security Officers, and the complete 16-hour course must be taught under the Board's trainer requirements. Registration also requires the application materials specified by PPSB. The state Board, not Bluewater Security Academy, controls the registration decision.
Transfer / employer change
North Carolina registrations are tied to the employing license holder, so an employer change is not something an officer should assume happens automatically. PPSB's current Security Employee Registration guidance identifies a transfer process and specifies the supporting documents that apply. Because forms, fees, and timing can change, use the Board's current instructions rather than relying on an old training-provider checklist.
Renewal
PPSB currently allows an unarmed guard renewal application to be submitted up to 90 days before expiration and accepts late renewals within 90 days after expiration with an additional late fee. Do not rely on older statements that there is no late-renewal window. The employing company is responsible for the guard-registration renewal process under current PPSB guidance.
Moving into North Carolina from another state
Do not assume an out-of-state guard credential automatically transfers into North Carolina. The destination state's rules control. Verify the current PPSB registration and training requirements before accepting an assignment that requires a North Carolina registration.
